About DHAB: Your Partners in Health

50 Years of Caring for Barbados

Back in 1975, four visionary Barbadians—Mr. John Grace, Mr. Hugh Mapp, Mrs. Dorothy Talma-Monteil, and Mr. Wilfred Furguson—saw their community facing a growing health challenge. They had a simple but powerful belief: no Barbadian should face diabetes alone.

What started as a small group of dedicated advocates has grown into something much bigger—a national movement of hope, support, and practical help for thousands of Barbadian families dealing with diabetes and hypertension.

Today, we’re still that same caring community, just stronger and more experienced.

We're Here for Every Step of Your Journey

Whether you’ve just received a diagnosis that’s left you with a hundred questions, you’re worried about your family’s health risks, or you simply want to live your healthiest life possible, you’ve found your people.

At DHAB, we believe every Barbadian deserves to live a full, vibrant life. That’s why everything we do is guided by one simple promise: to help you live better, longer.

What We Stand For

Our Vision:
To be Barbados’ leading health advocate—the organization you turn to when you need trusted guidance, real support, and hope for your health journey.

Our Mission:
To improve the quality of life for Barbadians living with diabetes and hypertension, and empower those at risk through education, support, and practical tools for better health.

Our Values – The Heart of How We Work:
We approach every interaction with confidentiality, empathy, integrity, and respect. We’re committed to being honest, accountable, and reliable partners in your health. And we believe in the power of teamwork and motivation to create real change.

How We're Making a Difference

Education That Makes Sense
We break down complex medical information into practical guidance you can actually use – from understanding your numbers to making healthier versions of the foods you love.

Real Community Support
Connect with other Barbadians who understand exactly what you’re going through. Share experiences, celebrate victories, and get encouragement when you need it most.

Advocacy for Better Health
We work with local businesses and organizations to make healthy choices more accessible and affordable for all Barbadians.

Research That Matters
We stay on top of the latest evidence-based practices and bring that knowledge directly to our community in ways that work for our unique lifestyle and culture.

When Your World Gets Turned Upside Down

Getting diagnosed with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or hypertension can feel overwhelming. Suddenly you’re wondering:

  • What can I still eat?
  • How do I explain this to my family?
  • What do these numbers actually mean?
  • Am I still going to be okay?

You have questions. We have answers. Most importantly, you have us.

While your doctor provides essential medical care, we provide something equally important – understanding, practical support, and hope from people who’ve been where you are.

Maybe you’re not dealing with a diagnosis yet, but you’re thinking ahead, wanting to protect yourself and your family. That’s smart, and we’re here for that journey too.

Creating Space for Your Best Life

At DHAB, we’re not just about managing illness – we’re about helping you thrive.

Emotionally.
Physically.
Socially.
Spiritually.

Because your health isn’t just about numbers on a chart. It’s about continuing to enjoy Sunday lunch with your family, having energy to play with your grandchildren, and feeling confident about your future.

That’s what we’re here for.
That’s what we’ve been doing for nearly 50 years.
And that’s what we’ll keep doing for as long as Barbados needs us.

Ready to take the next step in your health journey?
We’re ready to walk with you.
