Meet Our Executive Team
President, Tyrone Lowe
With over 30 years in financial services, Tyrone brings deep expertise as a Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Health Specialist, along with a master’s in international business law. He’s served in leadership roles at major institutions including Sagicor Life and Guardian Life, and currently works as Consulting Executive at NUPW Insurance Agent Inc.
Tyrone’s commitment to health advocacy runs deep – he chaired the Diabetes Association of Barbados’ 40th anniversary committee and currently leads DHAB’s Western Region. He also serves as President of BARAIFA and pioneered the CARAIFA Foundation, dedicated to kidney disease awareness.
His guiding principle: “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living won’t be in vain.”
1st Vice President, Richard Alleyne
Richard served as Harbour Master at the Port of Barbados for 30 years before a life-changing diagnosis in 2011. After successfully overcoming prostate cancer through radical prostatectomy, he found a new purpose in helping others navigate their health journeys.
Believing his survival was meant to serve others, Richard joined DHAB to focus on educating the community about non-communicable diseases. He’s passionate about empowering people with knowledge to live well and combat conditions that share common risk factors, turning his personal experience into a mission of hope and health advocacy.
2nd Vice President, Darren Watson
Darren Watson holds a Master’s degree in Marketing, works in communications, and has been an active volunteer since he was a teen. He is also a certified boxing coach and remains actively involved in youth development through sport.
At heart, Darren exposes himself as a gardener, someone who enjoys working with and in nature. Start a conversation with him about a DIY or garden project, and there’s a good chance he’ll be in the hardware store by the weekend.
Areas of emphasis:
1. Internal affairs and member relations – supporting clear communication channels between leadership and membership
2. Strengthening internal systems that improve member orientation, participation, and information flow
3. Promoting the spirit of volunteerism
Public Relations Officer, Ashlie Sandiford
Quiet by nature, Ashlie has just over a decade of experience in Community and International empowerment.
Her background in Research and Assessment, coupled with Mental Health Advocacy, has earned her the opportunity to work with Organizations such as Caritas International Network and World Central Kitchen.
In addition to the above, she is also a mother of a Type 1 diabetic.
Therefore, she understands the need to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases, as they are quite non-discriminatory.
Her beliefs on community can be encapsulated in these words, “Volunteerism is the rent that is paid to ensure that a helping hand can always be found through organizational aid.”

Secretary, Celeste Porter
Celeste began a distinguished career in education in September 1966, joining Ellerslie Comprehensive School as a Junior Teacher. Over more than three decades at the institution, she taught French, History, and Religious Knowledge before being promoted to Head of the Foreign Language Department. In 1999, she was appointed Deputy Principal of Ellerslie Secondary School, where she supported the Principal in the management and administration of staff. She was also selected as a member of the team trained to lead staff development for Edutech 2000.
Celeste holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and History (1971) and a Diploma in Education (1974), both from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. She went on to earn a Certificate in Education Management and Education (1997) and, in 2003, an MBA in Educational Management and Education from the University of Leicester.
Beyond the classroom, Celeste has been an active member of the Alliance Française of Bridgetown, the Barbados Horticultural Society, the Barbados National Trust, and BARP. A dedicated member of Berean Bible Church, she served as Church Secretary from 2010 to 2024. In her free time, Celeste enjoys traveling, gardening, and hiking.
Assistant Secretary, Joy Semple
As a dedicated civil servant with forty (40) years of service, Joy Semple brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of administration to the table.
Recently retired from the Ministry of Housing, Lands, and Maintenance as a Senior Administration Officer, she is passionate and committed to giving back to the community and sharing her knowledge.
Outside of her post-retirement pursuits, Joy enjoys traveling, reading, interior decorating, and spending time with her family – her husband, daughter, and adorable grandson.
Joy, who originally joined the Association in 2016 and recommitted in 2025, believes that she would be a valuable asset to the Executive Committee of the Diabetes and Hypertension Association of Barbados in the capacity of Assistant Secretary.
